With coasts on both the Marmara and the Aegean, Balıkesir is one of Turkey’s rare two-sea provinces. The olive groves and stone streets of Ayvalık and Cunda Island, the oxygen-rich coves of the Gulf of Edremit and the legendary Kaz (Ida) Mountains are favourites among nature lovers, along with Sarımsaklı beach and the Manyas bird sanctuary. Olive oil, höşmerim and seafood are its culinary signature.
